USGS HVO + PIERC Facilities Project Tour

HILO, BIG ISLAND, HAWAII

The USGS HVO + PIERC Facilities project will provide a new Field Station located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, as well as a new Research Facility and Warehouse located in Hilo for the United States Geological Survey (USGS). HVO comprises the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and PIERC contains the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center which makes up approximately 100 combined USGS staff, volunteers, and University of Hawaii at Hilo students. The scope of work at the Field Station includes a pump house, water tanks, a mechanical enclosure, seismology, geology, gas & general labs, as well as site improvements. At the Research Facility, the work includes a warehouse, a pump house, genetics, DNA, biology, insect rearing, geology, & UAS labs, as well as site improvements.
