Danielle Irwin is the President of MAKAHA LEARNING CENTER -
Danielle “Duckie” Irwin is the Chief Strategy Officer at Hawaii Unified Industries and President of the Makaha Learning Center. With over a decade of experience in construction and renewable energy, she helped Hawaii Unified achieve NCCER accreditation, overseeing certification programs and industry partnerships.
At Hawaii Unified, Irwin leads a team of seasoned & innovative industry experts, in partnership with her husband, Ryno Irwin, making them the island’s Power Couple with a primary mission to help bring a new model of energy independence that also stands to benefit and create workforce solutions through marketing renewable energy initiatives at the grassroots level.
As President of Makaha Learning Center, Duckie focuses on creating opportunities for Native Hawaiians and Waianae Coast residents. Under her leadership, the center has certified over 200 students in various trade programs, including one of Hawaii’s only NABCEP-approved solar training programs.
As a Makaha native herself, “Duckie” is committed to working alongside community, industry, regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to drive Hawaii's clean energy transformation to find locals more opportunities for a better future.
Recognized for her leadership, she was named to PBN’s 2022 40 Under 40 and Power Player Leaders, and the Women Who Mean Business 2023 awards by Pacific Business News.
The Makaha Cultural Learning Center, a native 501(c)3, was started in Makaha Valley almost a decade ago. Today, our primary mission is to create opportunities for Native Hawaiians and the people of the Waianae Coast through leadership, trades-training and outreach programs. Our vision is for more than a classroom and innovation space. We are working toward a world-class community Learning Center that is home to relevant and applicable courses designed to propel students on a path of success. We believe that love for self and community will be the natural manifestation that ensues. Our vision is for a learning center that serves as a model for change throughout Hawaii and the world. At the Makaha Learning Center, we have three core passions: Native Hawaiians, The Waianae Coast Community, and perpetuating the Trades.
